setting up a mic

i recently boutght a mic for mav172,(his new nick is jarzzxc) when i wnet over to help him set it up, all that coder said is that it was incredibly soft, and he could not hear it well. it is a 2-plug mic, not a usb. any help would be most appreciated by him and i.

Go to Start -> Programs -> Accesories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control and in the Microphone settings check Microphone Boost and turn up the microphone volume.
