mIRC disconnects for seemingly no reason
« on: February 16, 2008, 12:58:54 AM »

Every about 10 minutes or so, I get disconnected and it says:
[19:51:40] * [10053] Software caused connection abort

Any ideas?

Oh, and on a side note, my internet is EXTREMELY slow for some odd reason...

My problem has always been torrents killing everything. When I have multiple servers connected they all come tumbling down about every 10 minutes until I close it down to 1 or 2 servers I'm connected to.

It's probably port related, that's why having a lot of torrent traffic going over the same port might cause issues. (Either that or you use a comcast-like ISP and benefit from their "advanced bandwidth management system" nuking your connection because you actually dare to use the bandwidth you paid for to download torrents, I mean they don't sell 10Mbit connections so you can actually use that bandwidth!).

Try connecting to the servers IP rather then the domain name, and use a different port then the 6667 you're probably using now (Try some or ask cc which ones are opened heh, most networks have a range of ports, usually within 6660-6669,7000-7001. I think BC used to have an SSL connection on port 7000, but Im not 100% sure about that.)

ps. comcast smells funny.

For bittorents I'm using one of the ports in the 10000 range and I think the real problem might be my router as after a few hours of bittorent it must be reset manually by turning off the power and turning it back on because otherwise the wireless drops.

Yeah, must be the like one or two torrents... It just sucks because at 7 i get like 25 kb/s down speed. If it is like earlier than 5pm i don't have the problem for the most part...
