General Discussion / my dell laptop needs halp again :(
« on: February 05, 2008, 11:04:35 AM »
So.... before ringing customer service, I'll ask for help here :D

(It's the same laptop as the one i had a problem with a while ago)

The laptop uses Intel PROSet/Wireless for its wireless networks (model 3945ABG), and these couple of days it's started stuffing up a bit.  After one hour of use or so, it decides to disconnect from my network, and when I try to reconnect, mr error box pops up saying "Problem applying profile!".  Deleting/remaking profile doesn't work.  Rebooting works though.  Searching internets and such, there was stuff on updating a driver, or there was a hardware problem and stuff is overheating... I'm installing new driver right now, and if it still doesn't work, I'm going to try checking the stuff inside it tomorrow.  Does anyone have a better idea?

afaik, my wireless network is working find on ubuntu, so maybe its a software issue? meh, i never stay on ubuntu long enough to resist the urge of ren or some other game :P

General Discussion / halps with stupid windows please
« on: December 23, 2007, 11:30:49 AM »
Recently got a new laptop (two weeks ago thursday) and first thing was to install linux incase anything happened... and surprise surprise last night something happened, when I couldn't run a certain language in macromedia flash player, so went to boot windows to see if it works, and a very interesting error came (something along the lines of):
"Could not find (was it find?) C:\WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll.  The file may be missing or corrupt."
I had changed the file system to FAT32 before, so I accessed the windows partition with linux, and found hal.dll was there and alive, though that error still came up, so I tried to boot up with the OEM CD that came with the laptop.  After "Setup is searching for hardware configuration" or something like that, the screen just goes black and freezes.  I also tried with another windows install CD.  Then I tried my ubuntu CD, which booted fine, anyone have any idea what to do? I'm going to ring dell support thing tomorrow morning.

Ok I thought this might be a good place to vent a slight bit of my anger, as we all use the forums a lot :D

My stupid stupid computing course forum is now reverse.
I'm so dang confused.  I mean, who would like having new messages up the top?! There was a poll, noobs voted for reverse.  Who would like forums reverse? Anyone here?
